HTC Arrive officially announced on Sprint
After dropping hints over the past few days on their Twitter account, Sprint is ready to announce the top secret phone they’ve been hiding from us. The first ever CDMA Windows Phone 7 will be making its debut on Sprint next month. Called the HTC Arrive (better known as the HTC 7 Pro elsewhere), this will mark the first time that a WP7 device will be running on a CDMA network. It’s no surprise that this phone packs a slide-out QWERTY keyboard as it falls in nicely with Sprint’s trend of releasing keyboard toting smartphones (the Epic 4G and EVO 4G come to mind). Other than the slide-out keyboard and 3.6″ WVGA display, the rest of phone packs the same standard specs we’ve been seeing on all the other WP7 phones – a 1GHz processor, 16GB of internal storage, and a 5 megapixel camera. The HTC Arrive will go on sale March 20 for $199.99 with a new two-year contract on Sprint . HTC Arrive officially announced on Sprint , By Ubergizmo . HTC Flyer promo video released
HTC has released a promotional video for their upcoming HTC Flyer tablet, and it’s interesting to say the least. The video shows off what the tablet can be used for, and ends with the slogan “a tablet for the whole family”. It looks like HTC are planning to target the home and family market with this device and that could be a good thing, seeing how most tablets on the market haven’t really been targeted at families. The HTC Flyer will be powered by Android 2.4 with HTC Sense for tablets, pack a 1.5GHz Snapdragon processor, a 7″ display and front and rear cameras. You can head here to check out our preview of the tablet at the recent Mobile World Conference. The Daily to launch on Android?
According to some reports online , The Daily, an eNewspaper that launched on the iPad earlier this month might not be an iPad exclusive. According to an anonymous tip to the folks at All Things D, the News Corp owned newspaper will be making its way over to Google’s Android operating system. If the rumor turns out to be true, The Daily app for Android could arrive as early as spring this year. Since its launch there hasn’t really been much news about it though a move to Android could possibly boost its readership – after all, having content on more than one platform is bound to increase the amount of potential subscribers. If it does arrive on Android, will any of you be keen to subscribe to it? The Daily to launch on Android? , By Ubergizmo . Top Stories : LG Optimus 2X Review , Nexus S Review , Continue reading
Cycle and filter water with the CycloClean
The folks over at Nippon Basic have come up with a way to obtain drinking water with the use of a specially designed bicycle. Called CycloClean, this bicycle comes with a water tank that allows users to store water that they collect from any water sources they find. The bike can then be parked, and through the power of cycling, the water can be churned through a filter to make it drinkable. It is capable of filtering 3 tons of water in 10 hours – so with a team of cyclists working together, clean water shouldn’t be difficult to obtain in the future. Talk about ingenious! The CycloClean is going to be a hit in areas where safe drinking water doesn’t come easily and bicycles are used as the main mode of transportation. The bikes don’t come cheap though, at $6,650 each, not everybody can have one. But the benefits the bike could bring in the long run could justify its price. What do you think? iPad 2 mock-up might reveal industrial design
As the imminent announcement of the next generation iPad arrives next Wednesday , more leaks of the iPad 2 have started surfacing . Recently some folks over at a Japanese blog got their hands on what seems to be an accurate mock-up model of the final iPad 2. They managed to get it from a factory that produced iPad 2 cases, and they’ve released pictures of the model online. From the screenshots we can see, the iPad 2 looks a tad smaller than the original iPad, and it is much thinner as well. The mock-up also has a rear speaker grill and a camera on top as well, basically confirming all the rumors and speculations we’ve been hearing about the iPad 2. Well with the iPad 2 launch less than a week away, we won’t have to wait too long to find out. NEC launches the world’s first contactless hybrid fingerprint scanner
Do you ever get freaked out by the idea of having to touch a fingerprint scanner because it’s something that’s been used by hundreds of people that were before you? Well, fret not; NEC has just created the perfect for such a solution. They’ve just announced the commercial launch of the HS100-10 – the world’s first scanner that can simultaneously acquire fingerprint and finger vein characteristics without having to touch your finger. And because the scanner is contactless, this makes it impervious to sweaty fingers – something that current fingerprint scanners have been having trouble with. Since the scanner scans both fingerprints and vein characteristics, this technology is going to be more secure and harder to cheat. The HS100-10 will be exhibited at Pulse 2011 in Las Vegas this weekend, and will start shipping in May. For more info on the scanner head here . “Symbian is here to stay,” says Nokia
Remember when we posted about the speculations of Nokia Windows Phone 7 devices being delayed? We asked what the company was going to do in the meantime. Well Nokia has recently announced the answer to the world. Nokia’s Malaysian general manager, Vlasta Berka, was quoted saying to CNet, “Just because we’re changing our direction in terms of smartphone platform, it doesn’t mean that the existing platform is completely broken. Symbian is here to stay. Symbian will still be around, but it’s just going to go somewhere around the corner.” It looks like we haven’t seen the last of Symbian yet. There was no word on MeeGo as well, but we sure hope it sticks around too. “Symbian is here to stay,” says Nokia , By Ubergizmo . Gmail app for Android updated
Good news, Gmail users with Android phones. Google has just updated their Gmail app on the Android operating system, bringing some new features and bug fixes to the app. Gingerbread devices will get the ability to copy text with a long press, and all users will be able to sync custom label colors. Nothing major, but the ability to copy text with a long press is a welcome feature to the app though why it isn’t for all versions of Android is puzzling. Either way, head over to the Android Market to download the latest version of Gmail for your Android phone now. Gmail app for Android updated , By Ubergizmo . Electrical stimulation therapy helps paralyzed patients move again
Some researchers from Toronto Canada have discovered a way to help paralyzed patients move again. They have just posted a study online detailing a functional electrical stimulation therapy that increased paralyzed patients’ ability to pick up and hold objects. Using a pocket-sized electric stimulator that generates low-intensity electrical pulses, the stimulator will stimulate the muscles in a patient’s limb to move. After many repetitions, the nervous system is supposed to have relearned the motion and will be able to activate the required muscles on its own without the device. The experiment has been proven to work, though in cases where it was supplemented with regular therapy, it was more effective. If things continue getting better, paralysis may no longer be a problem in the future. Electrical stimulation therapy helps paralyzed patients move again , By Ubergizmo . Dell Rosemount tablet to come with removable battery?
We know that there was a leak of Dell’s 2011 roadmap for its range of tablets as well as smartphones , and here are more details concerning one of the devices from the former category. We’re looking at the Dell Rosemount , a 10″ tablet which will target the enterprise market, boasting a much favored removable battery to make sure that you can always swap batteries whenever the need arises instead of having it tethered to some power outlet, while software encryption delivers additional peace of mind not to mention being able to perform a remote wipe – all essential in the cutthroat world of business. Not only that, the Rosemount is rumored to come with a dual-digitizer which is capable of supporting both touch input and a stylus. Since it runs on an Atom chip (Intel’s Oak Trail), battery life should be respectable at the least. Dell Rosemount tablet to come with removable battery? , By Ubergizmo . Electric powered rickshaws to hit the streets of Japan
It looks like rickshaw riders of the future won’t need to be fit and able bodied people anymore. The Yodogawa Group in Japan has just revealed an electric-powered rickshaw that won’t need its driver to cycle in order to operate. Powered by a single lithium-ion battery, the electric rickshaw can move at a speed of up to 25 miles per hour and seats three passengers. It’s been designed to be as simple as possible, with heaters and air conditioners removed for blankets and pinwheel fans – the only thing electric in the rickshaw is the motor itself. With a traditional bamboo hardwood floor to square off the vehicle’s aesthetics, it is completely made from natural materials, so if the rickshaw has been trashed in an accident, all you have to do is bury it to get rid of it. No more heavy pedaling under the hot sun once these babies hit the streets. Electric powered rickshaws to hit the streets of Japan , By Ubergizmo . Audi Connect vehicle networking strategy
Audi certainly wants to make their line of luxury vehicles smarter, and this time around we have the Audi Connect , which is currently available in three of its cars – the A6, A7 and super luxurious A8. If you own any of those three sweet rides, you do have the option to part with more cash in exchange for an UMTS modem that will do its bit in downloading online applications for in-car use. Not only that, Audi engineers also think that LTE (Long Term Evolution) is the future, and has started to collaborate with Alcatel-Lucent to deliver faster LTE connectivity by the time 2014 rolls around. Apart from that, Audi is tipped to introduce live traffic data and voice commands sometime this summer, allowing it to gain control of a suite of Google services to boot. Would this make you want to drive off with an Audi instead of a Benz or BMW the next time around? Audi Connect vehicle networking strategy , By Ubergizmo . M1 Mobile Manipulator robot
Robots these days are getting extremely commonplace, and here we are with the M1 Mobile Manipulator from Meka Robotics, a San Francisco company that was kickstarted by MIT roboticists. The M1 Mobile Manipulator , as it is known, comprises of several in-house components where some of them include an omnidirectional mobile base, optional heads, hands, and sensors, and a height-adjustable torso with compliant limbs. It isn’t going to be the tallest person in the room anytime soon at just 126cm, but boy is it heavy at 165kg! Good luck trying to knock this little fellow over, and don’t kick him when you’re frustrated! Depending on the parts selected, your final price point will vary, but we do know the vanilla model will cost a cool $340,000. M1 Mobile Manipulator robot , By Ubergizmo .
