We keep hearing that Android is beating Apple iOS in some categories. According to the new MobileMix , study Apple and iOS devices are still on top with the iPhone as the most popular smartphone. We all know at this point that Apple is working on a new cloud music scheme. Word has come in that Sony has now signed up for the service and a deal may be close with Universal. A new patent has surfaced that shows off the Apple cloud music service will look like. The patent was dated in Q4 of 2009 so it has taken Apple a while to get things in order for the service. iPhone 4 uses Audience noise cancellation chip, no LTE iPhone until 2012, FCC and FTC look at location tracking
When iFixit tore down the iPhone 4, they noticed that one of the chips on the board near the processor couldn’t be identified. That chip was for the noise cancellation tech and it has been fingered as a chip from Audience . Apple isn’t expected to launch an LTE iPhone until 2012 according to the latest rumor. However, the 8MP iPhone 4S is now tipped to be coming in September. Apple is already facing suits over location tracking and the fix has been offered for the “flaw” as well. iPhone multimeter, Collabra Cam app, no NFC for next iPhone
All sorts of jobs and tasks require the use of a multimeter. The world’s first iPhone-enabled multimeter has turned up and it wirelessly shoots the data out to the iPhone and other iOS gear to act as the display. A new iPhone app called CollabraCam has landed for $6 that allows the user to make a single video from feeds coming from multiple iPhone 4 cameras. The app is really cool and should make filming with your iPhone pals lots of fun. Analysts claim that the next iPhone will not have NFC tech inside. Onkyo TX-NR809 supports iPhone, iPhone 4 shortages, Twitter mobile gets iPhone app revamp
Onkyo has announced a new AV receiver that is called the TX-NR809 that has a front panel USB port. That USB port will support the direct playback of music from the iPhone. A tip has surfaced that Foxconn is running behind on production of the iPad 2 and iPhone 4. The tip claims that the shortage is thanks to hard to find parts and labor and will reduce the number of devices hitting the market. The Twitter mobile site has been refreshed to look more like the iPhone app. The big difference between the iPhone app and the mobile site is that the mobile site is upside down compared to the app. Continue reading
Apple is most popular in Japan, iPhone catches thief, third rail case
A Japanese research firm announced recently that Android was ahead of the iPhone in market share in Japan. However, Apple is the most popular smartphone brand in the country. A driver left his truck in the driveway running to warm up with his iPhone on the front seat. A thief came by and took the truck and the owner used the iPhone GPS to track the phone and led police to the vehicle and it was recovered. Apple may be eyeing Nuance, Apple brand worth $153B, Eton Soulra Xl dock
If you are the outdoor sort and you want to be able to play the music from your iPhone and listen with more than one person Eton has a new dock for you. The dock is called the Soulra XL and it has a big solar panel on top that collects power to help keep the music going for up to five hours. Apparently, Apple is looking at possibly buying Nuance . Nuance is the maker of software for voice recognition that is used in a slew of products including the Microsoft branded Sync system in Ford cars. The Apple brand has moved up the list of most valuable brands considerably. The Apple brand is now said to be worth $153.3 billion making it more valuable than Google. Continue reading
iOS 5 OTA Verizon update, Snapbucket for iOS coming, iOS 4.3.3 available
Verizon is saying that the iPhone on its network will be able to get the iOS 5 update OTA . Generally, the only way to get an update to an iPhone is to connect to a computer and update via a USB cable from iTunes. I wonder if AT&T will get wireless updates too. Photobucket launched a new mobile app for Android today called Snapbucket mobile that lets you do all sorts of things with your photos before sharing them. The company also said that the app would be coming soon for iOS users. The iOS 4.3.3 update is now available on iTunes for users to load to their phones. AT&T says no new iPhone until September, American Airlines streaming to iPhone, Intel to fab iPhone chips?
A person that saw their iPhone upgrade date be pushed back several months claims to have called AT&T to ask why. According to the person, AT&T said it was because the iPhone 5 wouldn’t hit until this September , which fits in with other rumors we have heard. American Airlines has announced that it is planning to launch in-flight streaming of PPV movies to iPhone, iPad, and other devices. The movies will be streamed via Aircell in-flight broadband service. A rumor has surfaced that Intel may be the company fabbing chips for future iPhone models. Apple has now become the world’s second largest buyer of MEMS sensors that include accelerometers, gyroscopes, and microphones. You know that the devices are going into the iPhone and the iPad among other items and I would expect that to continue to grow. An app for Windows Phone users that want an iPhone has surfaced called iPooey . The app gives the Windows phone the look and feel of iOS 4, and Apple will not take kindly to that. After the photo we saw yesterday of the clearly thicker white iPhone 4, new reports are surfacing that say the white version is not thicker . Apple iOS 4.3.3, Blackberry Enterprise manages iOS too; White iPhone no thicker says Schiller
Apparently iOS is getting an update to version 4.3.3 very soon. The update will fix a few things, most notably; it will patch the location-tracking bug making headlines. The new Blackberry Enterprise Solution has launched and it will support multiple platforms. Those multiple platforms include Android and iOS devices. According to Schiller over at Apple, the white iPhone is no thicker . He says it has a different sensor and camera, but is no thicker. This case makes your iPhone 4 look like an old camera and it has a universal tripod attachment too. Square has announced that at some point this summer it will be releasing a new version of its card reader for the iPhone. Turntable iPhone dock concept, Apple buys iCloud domain, white iPhone hands on
A cool concept product turned up today that combines a record player with an iPhone dock . The concept would have an amp and speakers inside and could rip those vinyl tracks to MP3 for you. Apple is rumored to have purchased a domain name from another company called iCloud.com. Sources close to the deal say that Apple paid $4.5 million and the domain would be the new cloud music offering Apple has been rumored to be at work on. SlashGear spent a bit of hands on time with the white iPhone 4 today thanks to pals at Vodafone. Apple is trying to make iPhone users feel better about the scandal that has been going on with location tracking. Grocery scanning app, Leica iPhone mash up concept, white iPhone 4 on eBay
A cool new app has surfaced called Scan It that is in use in Stop & Shop supermarkets in the eastern US. The cool app lets the user scan their groceries and then hand the iPhone to the clerk to pay at the register. An interesting if a bit strange design concept surfaced that wraps the iPhone into a Leica camera design. The concept isn’t official from Apple or Leica, but it is cool nonetheless. A prototype white iPhone 4 has landed on eBay. I can only imagine the auction will be short lived since Apple will surely end it once they see the thing. White iPhone 4 at Best Buy April 27, iPhone tracks with location services off, iPhone 5 rumors
A screen shot from the Best Buy computer has surfaced and the screen shows that the iPhone will hit the store on the 27 in white. Apparently, each store will have at least ten of the white iPhone 4 smartphones on hand. The fact that the iPhone was storing location data on the user has been in headlines this week and it was thought that turning off location services would end the tracking. It turns out that the iPhone stores the location details even when location services are turned off. Some new rumors on the iPhone 5 have surfaced. A mock up of the device turned up that looks more like the iPod touch than the iPhone 4 we were expecting. Continue reading
