iCloud has iAd issues, iPhone data use shrinks, Apple to use WebGL graphics for iAd

iCloud hasn’t launched yet but there are apparently already frustrations surrounding the service. iCloud issues are said to center on users that have more than one user ID the new restrictions won’t allow the accounts to be combined. Nielsen’s latest data has shown that the data usage rate for the iPhone is declining. Part of the issue is thought to be data limits and the stats show that the average iPhone user hasn’t reached the data use of the average Android user reached last summer. Apple has reportedly accepted WebGL as the graphics behind the iAd platform. WebGL support is limited exclusively to iAd developers though. Continue reading

Air Guitar Move, Apple could buy most mobile competitors, TDK boombox supports iPhone

A cool gaming accessory is on Kickstarter called Air Guitar Move . The device is a guitar pick that will let you play rhythm games using your own music. An analyst has estimated that if Apple was so inclined it would be able to buy most of its mobile rivals in cash. It could buy Nokia, RIM, LG, Motorola, and Sony Ericsson if it wanted. TDK showed off a retro looking boombox that had a lot of modern touches as well. One of those modern touches is an included cable for playing your iPhone music on the boombox. Continue reading

Beacon Universal Remote, Publisher sues Apple offer iBooks trademark, i-FlashDrive

Griffin and Dijit have teamed up to offer a new hardware and app solution for the iPhone and other iOS gear for making it a universal remote called Beacon . The hardware is an AA battery powered tabletop device and the app allows for activities and more for full control of TVs and DVRs. A publisher in NYC has filed a trademark infringement suit against Apple over ibooks. The publisher says that Apple owns IBOOK trademark but when it began using iBooks for the digital books on iPhone and iPad Apple went over the line. PhotoFast has debuted a cool flash drive that works with an app to let the user of an iOS device move files. The i-FlashDrive needs no computer to move the files. Continue reading

Facebook iPhone photo app leak, Apple loses key exec, Apple bans app for storing pass codes

Photos and a little bit of information on a new Facebook photo sharing app has leaked . The app looks interesting, more details may come tomorrow after the claimed 50MB of photos and details are waded through. Apple executive Ron Johnson was the guy that came up with the idea for the Genius Bar in Apple retail stores. He has left Apple for JC Penny taking some of Apple’s mojo with him. Apple has banned an app from the App Store that was storing the user’s iPhone pass codes. The app was called Big Brother Security and was supposed to snap a pic of people that tried to enter your iPhone code and did it wrong. Continue reading

Unlocked iPhone 4 now available, iTunes costs $1.3B yearly to operate, Apple settles patent case with Nokia

Apple has started to sell the iPhone 4 in the US as an unlocked device . The phone is very far from cheap though at $649 and it will only run with supported GSM carriers. A report has surfaced that looks at all the items on iTunes and then puts it with some other figures available to come up with an estimated cost to run iTunes each year. According to the report, it costs as much as $1.3 billion a year to run iTunes. Apple has settled the ongoing patent suit with Nokia. The settlement has Apple paying an undisclosed sum in licensing fees. Continue reading

iPhones in space, Largan optics says Apple bought 8MP lenses, iOS 5 WiFi Sync drama

A pair of iPhone smartphones are set to go into space on the final space shuttle mission running an app called SpaceLabs for iOS. The crew of the shuttle will use the iPhones and the app for experiments while in orbit. The CEO of a lens maker for smartphones and tablets called Largan has said Apple is buying 8MP lenses from it. This reinforces the rumor that the next iPhone will have an 8MP camera. There are some allegations going around that Apple stole the WiFi Sync feature for iOS 5 from an app rejected last year. Apple rejected the WiFi Sync app from developer Greg Hughes and now is using the same name and a logo that looks nearly identical for iOS 5′s feature. Continue reading

IOGEAR has a cool new Bluetooth keyboard that is made for portability that will work with up to six devices at the same time. The keyboard supports newer iPhones, the iPad and lots more. Pioneer Electronics has unveiled a new VSX receiver line that has multiple units that are all AirPlay compatible. They also support connectivity to the iPhone and iPad. iOS 5 tethered jailbreak, Windows Phone chief flattered over iOS 5 design, WWDC 2011 wrap up

Apple unveiled iOS 5 yesterday during WWDC. Hackers were standing by frothing at the mouth to jailbreak the new OS and the deed is already done. The design chief for Windows Phone has noted that he feels flattered over the design of iOS 5. Microsoft Joe Belfiore says lots of Windows Phone ideas are coming to iOS. IR iOS camera patent app, iShuttr accessory, shared data plan hints from AT&T

A patent app has surfaced that outlines a new Apple system that would integrate IR tech with the camera inside an iPhone. The tech would be able to stop people from taking pics of some things and give more details about things viewed though the camera like museum exhibits. The iShuttr case will turn your iPhone into a point and shoot camera. The case has a shutter button, internal battery, and a bright flash. The case is seeking funding right now on Kickstarter. AT&T has been dropping hints that shared data plans might be in the near future. AT&T CEO would not elaborate on the timeline for the shared plan. Continue reading

Apple iCloud trademark for Europe, Apple cracks down on giveaways of iPhone, students may get iCloud discount

Apple’s has filed its iCloud trademark in Europe right in time for WWDC where the service is expected to go official. The European trademark for the service was field yesterday. A report has surfaced that Apple is cracking down on third parties that are giving away things like the iPhone and iPad as promotions. The provision has been around for a while and states that Apple iPhone, iPad and other gear can’t be used in third-party promotions. A student discount for access to iCloud is very possible according to some sources. Apple is big on educational discounts so I don’t think anyone would be surprised. Continue reading

iOS 5 and Jobs at WWDC, iOS holds steady in latest Nielson data, iPhone 4S may have integrated SIM

We learned iOS 5 will be unveiled at WWDC and Steve Jobs will be there to give the keynote. Along with iOS 5, the iCloud service is expected to be unveiled. Nielsen has unveiled the latest figures for the smartphone market. iOS has held steady at about 26% while Android is still 36% of the market in the latest numbers. A rumor has surfaced that the iPhone 4S will have an integrated SIM card. The same rumor claims that the iPhone 5 will come in the spring of 2012. IDAPT i4 charger review, Samsung demands to see iPhone 5, AT&T questions about T-Mobile purchase

SlashGear reviewed the IDAPT i4 universal charging station last week. This device has three spots that can hold chargers for the iPhone and other gear to allow charging of several devices at once. Samsung’s legal department has asked the courts to force Apple to give it early access to the iPhone 5 . This comes after Samsung was forced to hand over samples of its devices that allegedly infringe on Apple patents. AT&T is having to answer more questions from the FCC about its purchase of T-Mobile. Vodafone truck can charge 2K devices at once, App Store more paid app friendly, 8MP iPhone rumors

Vodafone has a big 18-wheeler that will travel around the UK charging up customer’s iPhones and other smartphones. The truck will be on hand at 11 festivals this summer to keep people using data. The Apple App store is said to be far friendlier for paid apps than the Android Market . Apparently, iPhone users are much more likely to buy apps than Android users are. Opera has launched the latest version of its web browser for iPhone users to take advantage of. The new version is Opera Mini 6 and it is offered for the iPhone 4 and the iPad right now. A leaked photo surfaced today that claims to be the first shot of the backside of the iPhone 5 . The key difference is that the flash for the camera is on the opposite side of the phone compared to the iPhone 4. Apple has announced that it is prepared to fight for developers that have been threatened with an IP suit. Apple says it licenses the patents in question and devs are covered by those licenses. A cool new app for owners of the Parrot AR.Drone has landed called Drone Ace . The app has a lot more control over the Drone than the official app with video recording and lots more. There was an explosion at the Foxconn factory where the iPad is assembled late last week. A third worker has now died because of that explosion. A new rumor has surfaced that claims the iPhone 4S or iPhone 5 depending on what it is called will be very different on the outside from the current devices.
